Antique Mary McEwen character wax doll. Measures approximately 21 inches tall.
McEwen made these dolls in her Seattle apartment. She made them but she did not sell any of them. They were later discovered in her estate. Her husband had owned a wax mannequin factory but the industry was quickly replaced with composition mannequins. She made these dolls employing her knowledge from the mannequin business.
Many of these dolls were made only as heads or parts. This particular doll has a twill wrapped wooden and wire body with soft cotton stuffed legs and feet. She has very well molded hands in grasping poses. The doll was completely sculpted by Mary McEwen with extreme character features.
